I am a total breakfast lover and these Granola Breakfast Cups are so fun to have first thing in the morning! They are super delicious, healthy and super fun to make! I usually whip up a batch the night before so I can add yoghurt and decorate them with fresh fruit the next morning!
Makes 6 cups
1 large banana
1/4th cup agave syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 1/2 cups oats
coconut oil for greasing
Preheat your oven to 180C.
Place the banana in a bowl and mash until smooth.
Then add the oats, agave syrup, vanilla powder and cinnamon and mix well.
Grease the muffin tray with some coconut oil.
Use a tablespoon to scoop in a spoonful of your granola mixture into each form then use your fingers to press the mixture down and up against the sides shaping them into the shape of the muffin tray creating a cup like figure.
Once you have shaped 6 cups place them into the fridge for about 1 hour.
After an hour place them into the oven for 15-20 min.
Once they are slightly golden brown take them out of the oven and allow to cool.
Once they have cooled down you can take your granola cups out of the muffin tray.
At this point if you are making them for the next morning simply store them in an airtight box. Once you are ready to enjoy them use a tablespoon to scoop in some coconut yoghurt into each granola cup and top them off with fresh red fruit!
Whats a better way to wake up on Sunday morning to the smell of freshly made banana pancakes! These are the fluffiest and tastiest banana pancakes I have ever made, whilst still being healthy! You can whip them up in only 10 min and decorate them with whatever you like. I love them simple with slices of fresh banana, crushed pecans for a little crunch and a drizzle of maple syrup – yum!
1 large banana
2 tbsp agave syrup
150 grams wheat flour
170 ml almond milk
1 tbsp coconut oil + extra for frying
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla powder
1/2 tbsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
In a large bowl mix together the flour, cinnamon, vanilla powder, baking powder and salt.
In a separate small bowl mash the banana and coconut oil together.
Pour the smooth banana mixture into the large bowl and mix with the dry ingredients.
Then add the agave syrup and almond milk and mix well until a smooth and thick mixture forms.
Heat up a nonstick pan with a little coconut oil and pour in some of your pancake batter to form your first pancake! Fry them on each side until golden brown and make sure they had enough time to cook all the way through.
Once they are ready serve your pancakes with some crushed pecans and sliced bananas and finish off by drizzling over some maple syrup!
When in Italy you’ll start your day with a cappuccino and end the day with an espresso to help digest dinner. Its that exact Italian routine that I find so charming. Taking that moment to either sit down (or most of the time stand at the bar) and order a coffee to then sip on and enjoy – a few moments of happiness that will keep Italians on their feet throughout the day.
However, when you are in Como and you do want to take the time to enjoy a moment of happiness by sipping on a coffee – then you have to go to Posta Bistrot where they serve one of my favourite cappuccino’s in the whole of Como.
Posta Bistrot is located on the most picturesque square right in the centre. They have a lovely interior however my spot is to sit outside on the terrace. Just imagine sitting under the shadow of the tree that grew its way through the wooden floor, feel the warm breeze on your skin, watching people walk by whilst sipping on your delicious and most flavoursome cup of coffee. I mean, a moment of pure happiness right?
What to have
The coffee of course! The espresso you get here is the most perfect espresso you will ever taste. This really is what a true espresso is supposed to taste like. Full of flavour, not watery, not bitter, just pure and short – simply amazing. However, in the morning or even in the afternoon a cappuccino is a must have, and they are absolutely amazing here. I always order a Soya Cappuccino which is truly out of this world. Smooth, full of deep flavours, no sugar needed as its slightly sweet of its own, but the coffee still overpowers the milk which makes the balance of flavours perfect.
For the non-vegans they serve all kinds of delicious daily made cakes, muffins and biscotti which you can dip in your coffee if you like!
Where to go
You can find this cute cafe in Piazza Alessandro Volta in Como and their opening times are 7am-10pm.
I honestly recommend you to stop here for a quick coffee or to enjoy some time on the terrace. Its a lovely spot – which is also great for an afternoon aperitivo!
When walking around in Como you’ll get lost in its fairytale labyrinth. On every corner there is a coffee bar and around lunch time the smell of Pasta Pomodoro fills the streets. However, when following your nose a little longer you’ll be pulled into another authentic side street in which you’ll find a cafe named Mystic Burger. This cafe doesn’t only look cute they also serve the most tasty vegan burger in the whole of Como.
What to have
You come here for a real burger experience and don’t you worry the Vegan Burger will give you the full package! Your first bite into this burger is a true mouthful. Whether you are vegan or not, when craving a burger you are looking for the whole experience. You want to use your hands, take a bite of a burger that should obviously be too big to fit in your mouth while the sauce slowly drips from the back onto your hands. You want to get down and dirty and believe me, this burger will tick all those boxes!
The Vegan Burger (€11,- with sides €14,-) consists of a vegetable patty, layered with a tomato & baked black olive salad, topped with a vegan fruit cheese and served in a homemade wholewheat bun. It’s a burger which is rich with lots of different flavours and textures. As you take a bite the vegan cheese will drip down your hands and the fresh flavour of the salad will kick in. Each bite is the combination of crunchy and fluffy textures. This includes the bread, it’s fluffy with a slight crunchy layer on the outside – super delicious!
The side dishes consist of fries and a freshly made salad. The fries look hand cut and are crispy from the outside while fluffy from the inside. Also to add a little healthy twist they serve it with a sidesalad of spelt, mixed veggies and beans. Its something I have never had as a side to a burger before, but I honestly love it. Its a little health kick that tastes amazing and even when ordering a kick-ass burger you also fuel your body with veggies – win win!

Next to being a surfers and yoga paradise its also an absolute vegan food paradise! In fact, there are so many cafes and restaurants that serve amazing plant based food that its hard to choose which spot you are going to try next!
So here I am making things a little easier for you! I went looking for the best coffee, smoothie bowls, smoothies, avo toast, chia jugs, pancakes, salads, burgers, pastas, pizza, vegan ice cream and even the best local Balinese food!

At Satu Satuthey make their own coconut milk which is absolutely delicious. Perfect for a cappuccino! If you are a coffee lover like I am then you will be happy to hear that they offer 3 different cup sizes – small, medium and LARGE! (For those Monday mornings)
I always get a cappuccino with soya milk and I am the happiest person on earth. The cappuccino (25k Idr/1.30 pounds) is smooth and full of flavour. It has a sweet touch and isn’t bitter or watery like the coffee you normally get served in Bali. Its the perfect wake up call on any morning!
Personally I’m a huge coffee freak and I can honestly say that Jikaa has one of the best cappuccino’s in Canggu. The moment you walk in you can already smell the coffee beans, the sound of milk being steamed and cups clinking together fills the room and it automatically makes you crave a coffee. And these cravings are always rewarded with the most delicious cappuccino!
They serve a great soya cappuccino! This coffee is perfect in strength and the milk doesn’t overpower the delicious coffee taste. After every sip you’ll notice the nutty after taste which gives it its unique flavour. Its soft, yet full of flavour.
If you are more of a quick espresso kind of person you’ll have to go toMatcha Cafe. Besides serving the best and highest quality matcha in Canggu you’ll also find that they serve the best espresso’s. This is due to the fact that the owner is Italian – and Italians know how to make some kick-ass coffee!
The Shady Shackmakes the best smoothie bowls and really go full out with the toppings – no boring smoothie bowl can be found here! My favourite is the ‘Greenpeace smoothie bowl‘ (90k Idr/3.85 Gbp) which consists of kale, spinach, spirulina, banana, coconut water, coconut oil, goji, chia, bee pollen and muesli. Even though it’s a very green smoothie bowl it has sweet and fruity flavours too which overpowers all the green ingredients – making it taste tropical and healthy!
My favourite smoothie bowl here is called the ‘Green Bowl’. At Peloton Supershop they serve you the biggest bowl which will definitely ease your breakfast cravings! The smoothie base is made with banana, mango, coconut water, spirulina and moringa protein powder. Then it’s topped with tropical fruit, toasted coconut flakes and cinnamon, cashew and raisin granola. A bowl full of healthy goodness and pure happiness!
They serve all kinds of delicious and beautiful smoothie bowls here, however one of my favourites is called the ‘Green and Grind’ (69k Idr/ 3.60 pounds). This green goodness consists of banana, mango, spinach, flax, maca, spirulina, coconut water and is topped with home-made granola and tropical fruit. Its absolutely delicious, super refreshing and extremely healthy. Even though this might be a green bowl it does not taste overly green and still has some sweetness to it. What I find different from this bowl compared to others is that when you have finished the toppings you don’t just have the rest of the smoothie to spoon out. Instead Kynd Communityplaces some more granola on the bottom so with every spoonful you have some yummy crunchiness!
Bali Bowls has all kinds of tropical deliciousness, however my favourite smoothie bowls are called ‘Green giant’ and ‘Banana-Cado’ (75k Idr/4.10 pounds) The ‘Green giant’ is an amazing green smoothie bowl that is still sweet and fruity while you are still getting all your greens in! Its a mix of spinach, kale, mango, banana, lime, turmeric, granola, coconut flakes and soya milk. Its smooth, refreshing and delicious! The ‘Banana-Cado’ smoothie bowl is a little more comforting as it has a more nutty and sweet flavour – which I love! The ingredients are banana, avocado, oats, peanut butter, dates, gojiberry, chia seeds, granola and oat milk.
To ease your chocolate cravings you have to order the ultimate smoothie called ‘Choc tops’. Its the most creamy, deep, rich and most chocolatey smoothie you will ever taste – I still dream about it now. Their menu is full of vegan deliciousness and they are truly amazing. However, the ‘Choc tops’ is a must try!!
At Betelnut Cafethey have the most delicious juices and smoothies. The ultimate smoothie is called the ‘Chunky Monkey‘ (which is a bit of a cheeky one). It’s made with banana, cashew butter, dates, flax seeds, muesli, ginseng, maca, cacao and coconut milk. Trust me, the cheekiest but best smoothie you’ll ever taste! Another smoothie that is absolutely delicious is called ‘Nutters‘ (40k Idr/ 2.10 Gbp). If you are a real nutty lover like I am you will love this one! It’s made with almond milk, cacao, dates, cashews, coconut, ginseng, maca and flax seeds – healthy, yummy and a real treat!
If you are an avocado lover then you have to try this ‘Avo hummus‘ (60k Idr/3.10 pounds) which consists of avocado hummus and an avocado rose served on a mixed seed sourdough topped with crunchy chickpeas, green peas and red radish. Whats originally a delicious and simple dish is made a little more interesting with a little twist to add some extra crunchiness and flavours.
Banana Flour Bakery’s home made bread is definitely something special. This bread has been made using banana flour – its soft from the inside but has a crunchy crust. You can get a hint of the banana flavour but this does not become too overpowering. Its absolutely delicious and definitely the most special bread I have ever tasted. Order the avocado on toast and it will definitely make your morning! The smooth avocado is full of flavour and is a PERFECT match with the crunchy bread with a hint of banana!
At Satu Satuthey serve a delicious Banana & Chia Jug made with a banana and papaya smoothie and topped with granola and shredded coconut. Its simple, tasty and has tropical flavours. Perfect for breakfast underneath the palms!
My fellow vegans, you’re in for a treat! Crate Cafe has the most exotic chia pods that you HAVE to try. Not only are they vibrant and super delicious, they are also extremely Instagram friendly! A big jug of chia pudding topped with a smoothie will overflow your jug leaving a delicious mess. Two must tries are the ‘Chia Boy‘ which is chocolate and coconut based (this is the most tasty one!) and the ‘BlueBS‘ is made with blue spirulina giving it the most awesome colour (the coolest looking one!).
If you are craving pancakes then look no further. These ‘Matcha Nutella Pancakes’ at Matcha Cafeare everything! They are gluten and dairy free but on request can also be made vegan. They are incredibly fluffy and full of flavour.
The pancakes are drizzled with home-made healthy ‘Nutella’ – the ‘Nutella’ is made purely from hazelnuts and cacao, which gives a beautiful, raw and chocolatey delight to your pancake. Add a little granola to your spoonful for some crunchiness creating the perfect combination. Its simply a plate made in heaven and it will make all your pancake dreams come true!
At Matcha Cafe they serve the best quality matcha so I also highly suggest you try a Matcha Latte to wash down your pancakes with!
For lunch a fresh salad in the Bali heat is always welcome! The salads they make at Motion Cafe are filling and full of flavours and textures. Two amazing salads are the ‘Vegan salad‘ (64k Idr/ 3.30 Gbp) and ‘Caramelised pumpkin‘ salad (70k Idr/ 3.60 Gbp). Both are the definition of tropical and the perfect meal!
At Sprout you can create your own salad! On the menu you’ll find all kinds of delicious salads of which you can choose and combine with each other. Some of my favourites are the ‘couscous salad’ , ‘kale and chickpea falafel salad’, ‘lentil salad’ and the ‘raw veggie salad’. Create your own plate and indulge yourself into its deliciousness! A mixed salad plate only costs 75 Idr (4 pounds) and you’ll find that its a great portion, perfect for lunch!
At Betelnut Cafethey serve a salad called the ‘Veggie patch’ which is made with roasted pumpkin, beetroot, rucola, shallots, cashews and spinach. You can only imagine how many textures, flavours and colours make up the perfect summery salad. However, the ‘Raw Gado Gado‘ salad is also a must try. It consists of spinach, rucola, cabbage, tofu, tempe, carrot, coconut, cucumber, sprouts and tomato which is then topped off with a deliciously home-made peanut sauce. This is the ultimate Balinese salad, which is refreshing and bursting with flavours.
This restaurant isn’t only beautiful and unique, the food is also AMAZING. If you are wanting to take your date out, then this is the place to impress your loved one with a romantic dinner underneath the stars. They serve the most delicious authentic food which is comforting and full of deep flavours. Enjoy every mouth full while being in the most romantic atmosphere. You might even get to cuddle the restaurants bunny who hops around underneath the tables!
The two must tries are the ‘Nasi Goreng Tempe Tofu‘ and the ‘Kare Tempe Tofu‘. They are two plates which are full of flavours and spices, a real traditional Balinese meal. For dessert you have to order the pancakes filled with coconut. Its a traditional Balinese sweet, which honestly tastes like a little piece of heaven!
You sit down on one of the few tables and are accompanied by some dogs that lay around in the shadow. You make your way inside where you order your plate full of goodness. The women looks at you patiently as she waits for you to point at any of the bowls located in the big cabined. You point, and she will place more food on your plate than you ever thought would fit. The great thing is, this plate full of deliciousness is extremely cheap so you can really fill up your plate with endless combinations! An average full plate and a bottle of water will cost between 25.000 to 45.000 idr. Everything is extremely delicious and you really get to taste some authentic food.
Ulekan has an amazing atmosphere which is slightly classier than other restaurants in Canggu. However, the food they serve here is purely authentic and home-made. Every dish is full of deep flavours and you can really taste the pure Balinese spices – which make the food very comforting.
For starter the ‘Tahu Tek‘ is an amazing traditional meal, it consists of steamed vegetables with rice cake, Lombok tofu and crispy shallots topped with a peanut dressing. Then for main you have to try the ‘Nasi Goreng Jamur‘ and the ‘Kare Nangka’ which is a jackfruit coconut curry. Again a plate of deep flavours and unique textures.
If you are vegan or not you want to get down and dirty while eating a burger. You want to be able to use your hands and have a little mayo dropping out from the back because only then you feel like you ate a real burger. Well people, this is the spot that serves the ultimate vegan burger. At The Shady Shackthey serve the ‘Vegan cheeseburger‘ (90k Idr/4.60 GBP) which consists of a mushroom and eggplant patty topped with vegan feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, vegan aioli, homemade tomato ketchup in a whole wheat bun. Cheese melts down your patty and it’s just full of flavour and textures, its simply amazing.
Bottega Italiana is the cutest little Italian spot that makes a plate of pasta that will transport you straight to a small side street in Italy. Their pasta is home-made and the sauces are made with the best quality ingredients, which make every plate extremely rich with flavours. Here you will find an honest, fresh and unique plate of pasta, which is absolutely delicious! A favourite in the whole of Canggu.
At La Baracca they serve the most amazing home-made classic Italian meals. Two of my absolute favourite pasta’s are the home-made ‘Pasta Pomodoro’ and ‘Pasta all olio e gingero’. You can taste that the ‘Pasta Pomodoro’ is made fresh as the pasta sticks together and has an amazing flavour of itself. The tomato sauce is a bomb of flavour as its a thick, chunky and raw. Fresh basil is sprinkled on top and you’ve got yourself a plate made in heaven.
At La Baraccathey serve the ultimate vegan pizza with home-made vegan cheese, tomatoes and fresh basil. Its definitely the best vegan pizza in Canggu. The base is crunchy and thin, the tomatoes fresh and flavoursome and even the vegan cheese surprised me! It really does replicate dairy cheese and has a really tasty flavour to it. When drizzled with some olive oil and sprinkled with fresh basil it doesn’t only look pretty it also tasted absolutely amazing.
At Milk & Maduthey make a pretty kick-ass pizza with many toppings. Its not your classic Italian pizza but definitely a must try! The best pizza’s are ‘Greenpeace’ (139k Idr, 7.60 pounds) and ‘Pumpkin pie’ (119k Idr, 6 pounds). On the menu these pizza’s are not vegan but simply ask and it will be made for you just how you like it!
The ‘Greenpeace’ pizza is topped with fresh tomato sauce, spinach, kale, olives, roasted red onion and garlic. The roasted red onion has a delicious caramelised flavour and the black olives have a strong taste and perfect texture. The garlic flavour combines itself with the spinach making all the flavours stand out but are complimenting each other at the same time.
The ‘Pumpkin pie’ pizza is topped with fresh tomato sauce, roasted pumpkin, roasted red onion and fresh rocket. The roasted pumpkin is deliciously soft and adding real texture to the crunchy pizza. The pizza base is thin and soft from the inside but extremely crunchy from the outside. Personally I prefer Napolitano pizza’s, which are thin and crispy – just like this one!
Mad Pops sells healthy vegan ice-cream made from locally sourced seasonal fruits and coconut milk. This delicious ice-cream does not contain any preservatives or additives and is all hand made! It’s the perfect treat on any day! Just pop in and get blown away by all the amazing flavours – you won’t believe they are vegan! Must tries are the flavours ‘Stracciatella’ (with a delicious creamy flavour and chunks of chocolate) , ‘Matcha’ and ‘Coconut Mint Chocolate Chip’.
At Gelato Secrets they make the tastiest vegan ice-cream! They make their ice-cream from the best fruits, vegetables, spices and other natural ingredients that Bali has to offer. They make everything 100% natural with fresh ingredients free from artificial flavourings, colourings and preservatives. On top of all this I can say that it also tastes absolutely amazing! Personally I’m totally in love with their coconut flavour but all flavours are so tasty its hard to choose!
I love this almond milk as its so creamy and nutty! I use it for baking, I add a splash in my coffee or I love to simply pour it over my Home-made Granola! Its even delicious just by itself, I always finish a big glass of it straight after I finished making it!
Almond milk is extremely healthy and its full of amazing vitamins. But its very hard to get a delicious and healthy almond milk in shops as its usually full of sugars and hardly any almonds have been used to make it. This is why its so good to make your own batch! Plus, its easy!
Makes one bottle
2 large cups raw organic almonds
8 cups water plus more for soaking
1 teaspoon vanilla powder
4 unpitted dates
Tiny pinch sea salt
Soak the almonds for at least 12 hours in a large bowl of water with a pinch of sea salt. The longer you leave the almonds to soak, the creamier your milk will become!
Drain the soaking water and rinse the almonds well.
Place all the almonds in a blender and add the water, vanilla powder and dates.
Blend this for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy! (Make sure you aren’t filling up your blender to the top as the almond mixture will expand so make sure it does not overflow)
When blended pour the almond mixture into a large bowl through a cheesecloth.
Once you have drained all the almond milk you have the almond flour left over – which you can dry in the oven and use it to bake something else delicious with!
Pour your almond milk into a glass jar and make sure to close the lid when keeping it refrigerated!
