Cappuccino in the most picturesque square in Como – Posta Bistrot

When in Italy you’ll start your day with a cappuccino and end the day with an espresso to help digest dinner. Its that exact Italian routine that I find so charming. Taking that moment to either sit down (or most of the time stand at the bar) and order a coffee to then sip on and enjoy – a few moments of happiness that will keep Italians on their feet throughout the day.

However, when you are in Como and you do want to take the time to enjoy a moment of happiness by sipping on a coffee – then you have to go to Posta Bistrot where they serve one of my favourite cappuccino’s in the whole of Como.

Posta Bistrot is located on the most picturesque square right in the centre. They have a lovely interior however my spot is to sit outside on the terrace. Just imagine sitting under the shadow of the tree that grew its way through the wooden floor, feel the warm breeze on your skin, watching people walk by whilst sipping on your delicious and most flavoursome cup of coffee. I mean, a moment of pure happiness right?

What to have

The coffee of course! The espresso you get here is the most perfect espresso you will ever taste. This really is what a true espresso is supposed to taste like. Full of flavour, not watery, not bitter, just pure and short – simply amazing. However, in the morning or even in the afternoon a cappuccino is a must have, and they are absolutely amazing here. I always order a Soya Cappuccino which is truly out of this world. Smooth, full of deep flavours, no sugar needed as its slightly sweet of its own, but the coffee still overpowers the milk which makes the balance of flavours perfect.

For the non-vegans they serve all kinds of delicious daily made cakes, muffins and biscotti which you can dip in your coffee if you like!

Where to go

You can find this cute cafe in Piazza Alessandro Volta in Como and their opening times are 7am-10pm.

I honestly recommend you to stop here for a quick coffee or to enjoy some time on the terrace. Its a lovely spot – which is also great for an afternoon aperitivo!

Sweet Matcha Smoothie

This green smoothie is the sweetest green smoothie you will ever taste! I love having it for breakfast as it’s absolutely delicious, refreshing and full of vitamins. The banana, dates and matcha in this smoothie will give you lots of energy which is perfect to start the day with! I also use spinach which is extremely low in calories and its full of vitamins and iron. Also adding a tablespoon of chia seeds will give you a boost of protein as a finishing touch! Healthy, sweet and yum! WIN WIN!

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 4 unpitted dates
  • 2 hand fuls frozen spinach
  • 1 teaspoon Matcha powder

The loveliest ‘Secret Spot’ in Canggu, Bali

The Secret Spot is definitely a little secret spot that you have to check out when you are in Canggu. As soon as you walk in you’ll notice it’s cosiness and the fresh atmosphere due to the green palms which are placed around the cafe. I personally love sitting outside on the roof terrace which allows you to have a look out over a lovely view while you’re drinking your coffee.

At this cafe you can always find a quiet spot to read a book in the corner or you can sit outside and enjoy the sun while playing the guitar. However, if you have a little bit of a sweet tooth then you’ll definitely fall in love with this place! The Secret Spot is specialised in frozen yoghurt! And oh my are they delicious! You can even personalise your frozen yoghurt by choosing any of the delicious toppings, so you can make it as healthy or naughty as you want.

What to have

I personally love coming for breakfast or to have a quick coffee or snack. They serve all kinds of delicious raw snacks and of course their frozen yoghurt is a lovely treat (for non-vegans).  The coffee they serve here is absolutely delicious and that is why the non-vegans under us need to try the Affogato as it is out of this world. However, as I said the coffee here really is delicious and it’s definitely a good spot to come for a quick caffeine pickup!

For breakfast I personally love the Chia pod with mango compote topped with granola and strawberries. The mango compote is so refreshing as well as tangy and the granola gives a nice crunch to all the soft flavours and textures. Especially in Bali it’s amazing to start with a refreshing breakfast and this is perfect!

Where to go

The Secret Spot is open everyday from 8am-10pm and the address is Jl. Pantai Berawa no. 44 in Canggu.

So before heading out for a surf get yourself a delicious breakfast and a coffee at this secret spot so you’ll be ready to take on the waves!

Where to find the ultimate vegan food: The Shady Shack in Bali

I think that we can all agree with the fact that The Shady Shack is a special place with some memorable food. The early mornings when I got woken up with a delicious coconut latte and a ‘vegan chocolate chip cookie’ in bed. Or the afternoons when my chocolate cravings got the better of me and I had a ‘Choc tops‘ chocolate smoothie to distil any chocolate cravings. The Shady Shack gave me many happy moments and it will always be one of my favourite places in Canggu.

I am in love with it’s tropical vibes and delicious food. I love to sit in their comfy chair surrounded by palm trees and flowers while enjoying the view over the rice fields.  Everything you thought Bali would look and feel like you will experience right here in this spot.

What I love

The Shady Shack is a vegetarian cafe but it also truly makes all your vegan dreams come true. Their menu is full of vibrant dishes that will even make your non-vegan friends dribble over their plate. I mean common, who can resist the creamiest, thickest, smoothest and deepest looking ‘Nutella cake‘ you have ever seen. We all have that soft spot for Nutella but to now finally taste vegan Nutella that also tastes just like real Nutella makes me want to jump 5 feet in the air of excitement. Fellow vegans, I’m 100% you will get just as excited and just as addicted to this ‘Nutella cake’ as I did.

The Shady Shack also makes the best smoothie bowls and really go full out with the toppings – no boring smoothie bowl can be found here! My favourite is the ‘Greenpeace smoothie bowl‘ (90k Idr/3.85 Gbp) which consists of kale, spinach, spirulina, banana, coconut water, coconut oil, goji, chia, bee pollen and muesli. Even though it’s a very green smoothie bowl it has sweet and fruity flavours too which overpowers all the green ingredients – making it taste tropical and healthy!

For dinner I love getting a burger here. If you are vegan or not you want to get down and dirty while eating a burger. You want to be able to use your hands and have a little mayo dropping out from the back because only then you feel like you ate a real burger. Well people, this is the spot that serves the ultimate vegan burger. The ‘Vegan cheeseburger‘ (90k Idr/4.60 GBP) consists of a mushroom and eggplant patty topped with vegan feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, vegan aioli, homemade tomato ketchup in a whole wheat bun. Cheese melts down your patty and it’s just full of flavour and textures, its simply amazing.

The Shady Shack is also one of my favourite spots to get a take away coconut cappuccino or a matcha latte. They make their coconut milk freshly every morning which is delicious in a cup of coffee.

Where to go

The Shady Shack’s address is Jl. Tanah Barak No.57 in Canggu and its open everyday from 7.30 am – 22.00 pm.

Im sure you’ll fall in love with it’s tropical vibes and it amazing food just like I did! Buon a petite y’all!

The most delicious & traditional cooking class at The Amala, Bali

Some days sunny Bali turns into a rainy paradise and leaves you being washed away from the beach. However, on days like that I know just the activity that will give you a chance to get to know a little piece of Bali’s culture!

At The Amala Hotel in Seminyak they offer private cooking lessons, teaching you how to cook an authentic Balinese meal!

As a surprise for my boyfriends birthday I decided to take him on this cooking adventure. We got got picked up, escorted through the rain and lead into a little piece of paradise.

In the middle of the busy streets of Seminyak you will find a tiny road that will lead you to a whole different world. As soon as you arrive you notice the tropical green colours, palms, water clattering down the stones, it truly is a beautiful place.

The cooking lesson is held next to the swimming pool and everything has been taken care of. The ingredients are ready for you to taste, the menu you will be preparing is there for you to inspect and your apron is ready to be put on!

Ingredients for our dishes – The Amala Hotel

The chef teaches you what kind of ingredients the Balinese kitchen uses and how to use it. Next to preparing some of the most delicious Balinese food I have ever tasted, I also learned a lot about the Balinese culture. Its amazing to get to talk about the overall culture and the importance of its food.

Cooking all these amazing recipes and preparing delicious dishes is an amazing experience. But it does get you hungry! The great thing is, after cooking all the meals you will be seated on a beautiful table with a view over the swimming pool and your very own prepared meals will be served to you! While raindrops were falling around us we sat down, enjoyed the view and had a feast!

From delicious Gado-gado and tofu in banana leaf to Pisang goreng (fried banana, my favourite!). Every single dish was as delicious as the other. The whole experience was amazing and I highly recommend you to join a class! Its perfect for a special occasion as you can join a class with a large group, or go for a romantic private lesson with your lover!

When we finished our dinner we even got an official certificate, our apron, the recipes and a little box of ingredients that we can use to recreate this delicious meal! We loved it!

The Amala Hotel  is located on Jl. Kunti I, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

A class is 725.000 Idr (around 40 pounds) per person and you can book your very own lesson by clicking here! I’m sure you will love it just as much as we did!

Enjoy! X

Where to go for dinner and cocktails on a Friday night in Ubud, Bali

Ubud is a lovely place and the centre comes alive at night. But due to the many different restaurants and cafes it gets quite hard to choose a perfect spot! So I decided to share a little tip and tell you what one of my favourite places is to go to on a Friday night!

Ready?

L1300571.jpg
Espresso Martini MyWarung Ubud, Bali

Welcome to MyWarung! As soon as you walk in you will notice the great atmosphere! On any night of the week its seems to be buzzing and full with people enjoying good food and great cocktails. Nice and relaxing music in the background sets the right mood and laughter fills the room. Its a lovely place perfect for an evening with friends, a family dinner or even a date night! Its warm atmosphere and the kind people make you feel extremely comfortable.

Behind the bar they make delicious cocktails and some even with a little twist! The bar is open and placed in the middle of the restaurant so you can watch them make your very own cocktail, which creates quite a show!

MyWarung Spritz MyWarung Ubud, Bali

The ‘MyWarung Spritz’ (100k Idr) and ‘MyWarung Rujak Martini’ (100k Idr) are the specials that I got highly recommended. So I couldn’t resist and had to try them!

The ‘MyWarung Spritz’ was citrusy, summery, you could taste the red fruit, fresh but with a surprising slight sparkle which hits you first before any of the flavours kick in. The taste of alcohol is not very strong which makes it very pleasant to drink, even while you are eating. The flavours melt together nicely. Perfect hot summer day drink!

The ‘MyWarung Rujak Martini’ was extremely surprising and I have never tasted something like this before! It was fruity, orange, tangy. The moment you take your first sip its light, but hold up a second because another flavour is about to kick in! A burst of spiciness is about to take over! This drink is made with pineapple, cucumber, apple, triple 6, vodka, and then as the special ingredient.. Balinese chilli! Its extremely special and I am not surprised that this is their signature drink!

Roasted Pumpkin salad MyWarung Ubud, Bali

For dinner I decided to try the ‘Roasted Pumpkin’ salad (65k Idr) which is vegetarian but can also be made vegan! It was very light and fresh pear really gave the salad character. Pumpkin seeds were sprinkled on top which created an amazing texture!

For the non-vegetarians there is a special dish that you have to try! But this dish is not for the weak! ‘Nasi Babi Sambal Matah’ (85k Idr) is a traditional spicy Balinese dish! You will be thanking them for placing a large amount of white rice in the middle of the plate, because you are going to need it when your mouth is on fire! This plate is full of tangy, fresh, spicy and crunchy flavours and textures!

Nasi Babi Sambal Matah – MyWarung Ubud, Bali

A little tip – try the ‘Espresso Martini’ (100k Idr)! As you know I am a big coffee lover so this is definitely my favourite cocktail! Its extremely creamy, tasty, sweet and it does not have an overpowering alcohol flavour. (Which can be dangerous, this cocktail is so good that before you know it you will be falling of your chair!)

The staff is extremely friendly and always have a smile on their face! Great quality for the price you pay! Great place to impress someone by taking them out for a cocktail on a Friday or Saturday evening!

There are 4 different MyWarung restaurants in Bali and this one in Ubud is actually their newest one! But already it has a great atmosphere and it is considered to be a very trendy place!  If you want to know more about the 3 other locations click here!

MyWarung in Ubud is open from 11 am to 11pm

Their address is: No. 7 Galeria Menara Ubud, Jalan Raya Ubud, Gianyar, Bali 80571 Indonesia
