My Healthy and Simple Morning Routine

My morning routine is pretty simple. But it’s the morning which will effect your whole day.

I usually wake up from the smell of freshly made coffee coming from the kitchen. I have always been surrounded by coffee lovers even since I was small. (I used to drink Bamboo coffee as I didn’t want to miss out on something everyone was so obsessed about).

If I’m lucky il even get a coffee shoved underneath my nose and il wake up from the smell of golden delight. To me that’s the best alarm clock in the world, want to wake me up quickly and smiling than this is THE way to say good morning!

Before drinking my coffee though I try to drink 2 glasses of room temperature water with squeezed lemon. It’s the best way to wake up and cleanse your body first thing in the morning. (It’s also great for when you are on a diet as it helps shrink your tummy).

While sipping on my coffee I love to get some work done while still being comfortable in bed. It’s the perfect time for me to write some articles or reply to emails.

After a bit of work and coffee in bed I get up, and I make my bed. I know, I seem like such a good girl. But it’s actually psychologically very good for you. As this is the first task of your day, and you have finished it. Psychologically you feel like you have accomplished a task and this will help you finish every other task through the day.

I’m that kind of person that doesn’t always feel extremely energetic in the morning, I like to stretch and take it easy as I’m sipping on my coffee. So I like to have a wake-up call. That’s usually in the form of a shower ending with a few minutes of freezing water. This is great to wake up your entire body, helps improve your immunity and circulation and even stimulates weight loss. However, if I have a huge lake in front of my house (like I do in Switzerland) then I prefer going for a cold dip! It’s therapeutic, and it definitely wakes me up!

Then it’s time for my favourite meal of the day, BREAKFAST! You can click here to see all the delicious recipe’s I love to make in the morning! Breakfast is so important and you can get your imagination going! Also, breakfast is the time where you don’t have to feel guilty about adding chocolate to your meal as you’ll be burning it off during the day. Woohoo!! (Secretly that’s why it’s my favourite meal of the day!)

Pecan Cinnamon Granola

This granola is one of my all-time favourites! It’s healthy, delicious, easy to make and if you keep it in an airtight container you’ll be able to enjoy it for more than a week – in my house it doesn’t last that long! 😉

  • 3 dates
  • 50 grams shaved almonds
  • 100 grams agave syrup
  • 60 grams liquid coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon hennep seeds
  • 3 tablespoons cinnamon

Method

  1. Start by turning on the oven on 180c (fan).
  2. Place the oats, shaved almonds and cinnamon inside a big bowl and mix.
  3. Break the pecans in half or smaller and mix into the bowl.
  4. Get a smaller bowl and put the coconut oil and syrup inside, mix until it forms one thick liquid.
  5. Pour the coconut oil and syrup mix into the large bowl with the other ingredients and mix well until everything sticks together.
  6. Place the mixture into a baking tray and spread it out evenly.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 min until golden brown, mix everything frequently to make sure the top doesn’t burn.
  8. In the meantime cut the dates into small pieces.

Summery Strawberry Chia Jam

Days are getting longer and mornings are getting warmer, which means it’s time to whip out the fresh strawberries and create something summery to get in the spirit! Jam is a classic in any household but it usually consists of lots of sugars. This strawberry jam has no refined sugar but instead has lots of vitamins from the fresh fruit and protein which comes from the chia seeds. This means it’s a great way to start the day!

Put some on your porridge in the morning, on a cracker as a snack or even on a cheeky piece of cake or on pancakes as a topping! It’s super yummy and definitely very healthy!

Ingredients

  • 250 grams fresh strawberries
  • 3 tablespoons agave syrup
  • 2 ½ tablespoons chia seeds

Method

  1. Start by placing the agave syrup and strawberries in a sauce pan and bring them to boil.
  2. Let them simmer for about 5 min, stir regularly.
  3. Then mash the strawberries using a fork or a potato masher.
  4. Once the strawberries are mashed stir in the chia seeds.
  5. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 min, stir often.
  6. Once the mixture starts to thicken remove from the heat and poor it in an airtight jar.

Keep the jam in the fridge and you’ll be able to enjoy it for around a week. Buon a petite!X

I have discovered the new African SUPERFRUIT – why and how we should add this to our diets

Breakfast, the most important and the best meal of the day! Starting the morning with a cup of coffee is for me a must, however straight after I will be making my breakfast which usually consist of a smoothie, porridge, or on an extra good day some delicious pancakes! However, I now add something to my morning routine that makes my mornings even better! Il add a spoon of Aduna‘s Baobab super fruit powder to my breakfast and I’ve got all the vitamins I need to start the day.

Let me tell you about Africa’s super fruit which is named ‘Tree of Life’. Baobab is a fruit that has an extremely high dosage of Vitamin C and fibre, which helps aid in your overall health. Aduna is a brand that works with rural communities to harvest and process Baobab in Africa, which helps create sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of households. I am genuinely impressed by the difference they make in the African community while creating such an amazing product.

Superfruit powder

Baobab powder has a subtle sweet and tangy flavour which goes perfectly in any smoothie or mix it in your porridge, yoghurt or in a dressing to drizzle over your salad. When I’m in a hurry I also often just mix it into a bottle of water and have an energy boost on the go or when I’m going for a work out.

Superfruit energy bars

I often have Aduna‘s ‘Super fruit energy bars’ on the go and they are my absolute favourite. The Baobab energy bar has a sweet and tangy flavour and is perfect for a snack or as a pre workout before working out.

But why is it so important to be adding this super fruit to our diets? Well, here are a few of the health benefits this fruit offers. So you can see for yourself why everyone should be adding this to their daily diets.

Health benefits

1. High in Vitamin C

As I mentioned before baobab has a very high dosage of Vitamin C, which improves your immune system as well as aiding in a healthy and glowing looking skin. In fact, one serving of 2-3 teaspoons of Baobab powder has about 33% of your daily vitamin C requirement.

2. High in fibre

Baobab consist of almost 50% fibre, which aids in digestion and makes it a powerful prebiotic.

3. High in antioxidants

Baobab has twice the antioxidants than that of goji berries – its higher than any fruit making it the queen of antioxidants.

4. Improves blood sugar

Adunas Baobab Powder contains 34% soluble fibre. This helps slow down the release of sugars into your blood stream, which helps reduce energy spikes.

5. Helps improve absorption of iron

Your body needs Vitamin C to help absorb iron.

6. High in alkaline

Baobab is considered to have one of the highest levels of alkaline compared to other super foods. Alkaline helps to balance your body’s pH levels.

7. Pregnancy

Pregnant women are advised to consume 85mg of vitamin C everyday. Baobab has 26mg of vitamin C per one serving of 10 grams, which makes it perfect as a daily consumption. The vitamin is needed to help your baby grow during pregnancy as well as aiding in your own health.

8. High in prebiotic

The soluble fibers of the baobab fruit pulp are prebiotics.

How to get your own

Not only does it have amazing benefits for your body, it also tastes absolutely delicious! I definitely advise you to try the Baobab powder and if you work out or just like healthy snacks then you should also load up on the Baobab energy bars. I always keep a few in my bag for when I need an energy boast or just fancy some healthy deliciousness!

Another day in breakfast Paradise at Kynd Community

Another day in paradise, another tropical breakfast in Bali! My favourite part of the day is waking up to a good cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast right here in the tropics. One spot that I love going to and you can’t miss out on is a cafe named Kynd Community.

Kynd Community is a plant-based cafe hidden away in the busy streets of Seminyak. This cafe really shows that plant-based food doesn’t have to be boring at all. Their menu is full of vibrance and their dishes explode with flavours and veggie goodness.

The cafe has a tropical and laid-back vibe. People come strolling in for take-away coffees and a cheeky vegan chocolate chip banana muffin as they walk away with a smile. All kinds of delicious vegan desserts are laid out at the counter and you cant help but stare at them as you walk past. The smell of freshly grounded coffee hangs in the air and laughter fills the room. Its a lovely space to hang out and enjoy some Bali vibes.

What to get

As you might know I am the biggest coffee freak and thats why I am happy to say that the coffee they serve here is delicious! They make their milks fresh every morning and you can choose between soya, coconut and roasted almond & date milk, my favourite here is the soya.

Their menu is so vibrant and there are so many delicious options. As everything is plant-based I would say that everything on the menu is as delicious as the other. However, I love getting the ‘Greener Grass’ juice (50k Idr/ 2.50 pounds) for some refreshing green goodness. This juice is extremely fresh and I definitely recommend you to get it on a hot day. Even though it’s a green juice it does also have a sweet taste to it and as there is some ginger in there as well its creates a perfect flavour balance.

Then of course a must have and also one of my favourites is the ‘Green and Grind’ smoothie bowl (69k Idr/ 3.60 pounds). This green goodness consists of banana, mango, spinach, flax, maca, spirulina, coconut water and is topped with home-made granola and tropical fruit. Its absolutely delicious, super refreshing and extremely healthy. Even though this might be a green bowl it does not taste overly green and still has some sweetness to it. What I find different from this bowl compared to others is that when you have finished the toppings you don’t just have the rest of the smoothie to spoon out. Instead at Kynd Community puts the granola on the bottom so with every spoonful you have some crunchy granola.

Tip:

When ordering your smoothie bowl ask if they can write a personalised message for you as a topping on your bowl. Its a little bit of fun that will look great on your Insta 😉

Have you fallen in love with the home-made granola, their cookies or even their cutlery then no worries! You can purchase them inside and take home some Bali vibes! I definitely recommend to take home some chocolate chip cookie vibes!

Where to go

They are open everyday from 6am – 5pm and their address is Jl. Petitenget No.12X, Kerobokan Kelod, Kuta Utara, Bali.

This is the ultimate spot for a delicious breakfast, brunch or lunch with friends – you will even convince that one non-vegan friend that vegan food can be vibrant and delicious! Enjoy!
