The best vegan ice-cream on the lake in Como, Italy.

When you’re in Italy you can expect to be finding yourself stuffing your face with ice-cream, lets be honest here. My diet has consisted of espresso’s, pasta and ice-cream in the last few days and apart from going for that extra run I feel great! Being vegan in Italy has always been seen as a very difficult task. But that’s not always true. I have been going to Italy for quite a while and have found some amazing Italian meals that even I can order in a restaurant or cafe. Nevertheless, I have recently discovered an ice salon which is now one of my favourite spots in Como.

What I like

In a small side street you will find a spot named Vanilla BioVanilla Bio is an ice salon which only sells vegan and bio ice-cream. Two bubbly girls make you try all the flavours you want and make you even more indecisive as everything you taste is as good as the other. However, if you want to dulge in delight you have to try two of my favourite  flavours, ‘coconut’ and ‘chocolate’. They are both vegan and absolutely delicious. Imagine a crispy cone with the most creamiest and flavoursome ice-cream, all plant based.

When you visit Como you can’t miss out on this spot, and trust me you wont be returning just once.

Where to go

They are open everyday and the address is Via fontana 15 in Como, Italy.

It’s the perfect treat on any day! Just pop in and get blown away by all the amazing flavours – you won’t believe they are vegan!

What I love

I always have trouble choosing, however at Mad Pops I can stare at all the flavours for the longest of time. All the flavours are absolutely delicious and depending on my mood I will always have a different combination. Nevertheless, a must try is the ‘Stracciatella’ with a delicious creamy flavour and chunks of chocolate. Both ‘Matcha’ and ‘Coconut Mint Chocolate Chip’ are also a must try. They are so good – I still can’t believe its vegan!

Get your ice-cream served in a vegan cone and topped of with one of many delicious toppings such as nuts, sprinkles or Oreo crumbles – a treat that has blessed us all by being fully vegan!

My favourite places in Chelsea

I have been living in Chelsea for almost a year now and have explored every little street! It is an amazing place and especially now the summer is finally here it is prettier than ever! Roads are full of gorgeous and colourful houses, flowers are blossoming, cafes are opening their doors, it’s just buzzing with excitement! Early morning walks as well as late night walks through Chelsea are my favourite! – Especially those late night walks ending up in my favourite ice-cream shop near Sloane Square!

Let me guide you through some of my favourite places in Chelsea that you definitely should give a visit next time you are in the neighbourhood!

Juicebaby Chelsea

First stop, Juicebaby! These smoothies are just mind-blowing! They have an amazing menu with each smoothy sounding better than the other! – It is impossible to choose in this place! I will never spend less than 10 min staring at the menu debating whether I should just get them all. At first you might think they are a bit pricey, however, they definitely give you your moneys worth! The smoothies are rather large of size and the ingredients are very high quality. Also they are not the average smoothie you would make at home. Each one of them has some kind of special ingredient in them! You should definitely go and try them, trust me you’ll be back soon enough craving for more! Have them in the morning, as breakfast, as a post or pre-workout or even as a snack! You’ll love it!!

Soya cappuccino, The Ivy Chelsea Garden

Next stop, coffee! Now to many of us coffee is our best friend in the morning, afternoon or even at night after a nice dinner! And one of the best places I recommend you to go and have a coffee is at The Ivy! Not only do they have good coffee, the place is also amazing! On a nice sunny day go and sit in the garden at the back of the restaurant! It is so pretty you wouldn’t want to leave! You will be drinking your coffee being surrounded by flowers and palm trees, while you can hear the sound of water clattering in the background from the small fountains. It’s magical.

Noodle salad, Phat Phuc Noodle Bar

My all time favourite place to go for lunch is a noodle bar named Phat Phuc! (I know right, I couldn’t stop smiling when I first heard the name either!)  This is a place not many people know about as it is slightly hidden on Kings road. But as it is rather small it is quite hard to get a table around lunch time! Nevertheless, the service is incredibly quick and trust me the food is so delicious that you won’t take that much time to finish it either!! – Which means it does not take extremely long when waiting for a table!

The bar is located outside and you will be sitting in what almost feels like a tent, its extremely cosy! The people are really friendly and as I said the service is super quick! But, most importantly, the food is just incredible. Every single dish is fresh and hand made! (which you can definitely taste!) The flavours explode in your mouth and leaves you longing for that next bite! They use a lot of ingredients which makes every dish special and unique! Honestly, everything on the menu is amazing. But there are two dishes that I cannot get enough of! In the winter I love getting the warm and cosy vegetable laksa, but in the summer the fresh noodle salads are just perfect!! Pictures nor words do this place justice, you will have to taste it yourself!!

Amorino

Last but definitely not least! Go and get yourself a well deserved ice cream! (Yes everyone deserves to enjoy the best ice cream in London!) Amorino is located on Kings road and is honestly my favourite ice cream place in London! They have incredible flavours and a large selection of sorbet ice cream! (Perfect for the vegan’s under us!) Not only does it taste amazing, they also manage to make it the prettiest ice cream in London! When you order your ice cream on a cone they create a masterwork by making your ice cream in the shape of a flower! It’s almost to pretty to eat! But too delicious to resist!

Coffee, Ice cream and views

So what is the first thing you think of when you open your eyes in the morning? Exactly, COFFEE! Especially being in Italy this is the highlight of the day! – For a coffee freak like me at least. Wondering the streets in Como using your sense of smell as a guide. The smell of fresh croissants and coffee are leading you in. You walk in a small cafe as you cannot longer control yourself and now have a sense of desperation in your voice while ordering your croissant. Your first bite, warm and crispy. Your first sip, hot, smooth, first bitter but then sweet. Perfect, perfect is the only word to describe such flavours.

Are you a breakfast freak to? Go to Como. As we know Italian food is the most comforting, flavoursome and authentic cuisine with recipes going back generations. Untouched and beautiful. Much like it’s architecture. The beautiful roads and buildings, and although you will get lost in all the small streets you will get stunned by the beauty of each one of them.

Don’t even get me started on the ice-cream. What is a better way to enjoy the sun and the view by getting the most amazing ice-cream. It does not matter where you go in Italy to get yourself a good ice-cream, but keep your eyes out for the small authentic corner shops. Those are usually the best as there is a large chance they make their ice-cream themselves. If you are lucky it will be a family recipe, grandmothers ice-cream. If so, you have just won the lottery! Dig in to the most delicious ice-cream you have ever had!

After an amazing weekend spend in the most amazing places with the most amazing people we flew back to London. When flying from Milan to London the view is always breathtaking. Make sure to always keep your face pressed against the window when approaching or leaving Milan airport, trust me, it’s worth it.
