The spot that only serves the best home-made Pasta in London – Padella


Padella is one of my favourite places in London that I religiously visit every time I visit this beautiful city. Its a small restaurant in Borough market that’s always buzzing with people creating the most energetic atmosphere.

Inside this rather small but beautiful restaurant you’ll immediately feel cosy and welcome. The passionate chefs are cooking away behind the bar creating the most delicious plates of home-made pasta. These plates of pasta are served just like la nonna would serve them to you – a good portion, full of deep flavours and extremely comforting. After all a plate of pasta is supposed to comfort you, tell you everything is okay and make you feel so good that by the time you put your fork down you’ll be skipping through the rain with a smile.

When visiting Padella most of the time you’ll find a queue going around the corner. But don’t be afraid to get your spot at the end of the line, as their service is so quick you wont even queue for very long. And nevertheless, once you’re inside digging into your plate of pasta you’ll quickly realise that it’s definitely worth queueing for.


What to have


I definitely recommend to order a few different plates so you can share with your pasta date and this way you can try as many of all the delicious flavours as you can!

As a starter I recommend trying their amazing sourdough bread by dipping it in their Fiorano olive oil. It’s so simple but yet so amazing. I believe in Italian food thats what really makes a dish, simplicity and high quality is what makes flavours stand out.

Other plates to share are the fresh Radicchio, oak leaf and rocket salad as well as the Bruschetta with cannellini beans and salsa rossa. They are both amazing starters preparing you for more deep flavours to come.

Now we get to the main of your feast. I cant help myself but order way too many plates which I somehow manage to lick clean as even the last bite is as magical as the first. My two absolute favourite pasta’s are both the tagliarini with dry chilli, garlic and pangratatto(£5) and of course the classic tagliarini with slow cooked tomato sauce(£6.5) – which is an absolute must try. The flavour of the tomato sauce is so deep and extremely rich. It’s incredible how a tomato sauce can have so much flavour that even though every bite is the same, you will never ever get bored of the flavours.



I am honestly in love with this place and if I could I would come for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What’s also amazing is the fact that every plate is extremely affordable. Just like in Italy a plate of pasta is the most basic but delicious and comforting meal that should be affordable to anyone. And unlike normal restaurants in London at Padella you will get multiple plates creating an absolute pasta feast for under £20. Plus this really is the most authentic and best pasta you will get in London – so its a win win! I mean..its a pasta dream right?


Where to go


You’ll find this piece of pasta heaven located in Borough Market and their address is 6 Southwark St in London. 

They are open from Monday to Saturday at 12–3:45pm and 5–10pm. And on Sunday from 12–3:45pm and 5–9pm. You can’t make any bookings, however I suggest you to try visit just before or after the typical lunch or dinner time as it gets very busy. Nevertheless, if you do have to stand in line it won’t be for too long and it will definitely be worth it! Buon appetito!



The Best Pasta Pomodoro – an original recipe from Italy


This is my all-time favourite meal. I have spend a lot of time in Italy and I will always be hypnotised by the Italian food thats so full of love and passion. Put a plate of pasta in front of me and I will be quiet. All my attention goes to putting my fork in the pasta, twisting it around and pulling it up slightly, watching the sauce drip off. The sound and the smell are so hypnotising, I close my eyes even before bringing the fork to my mouth. The first bite is an explosion of flavours and every single bite that follows is just as magical. Everything about eating a plate of pasta is a ritual, it’s dreamy.

I have learned this recipe from my Italian boyfriends mother who is a true Italian women. She has always made the best Pasta Pomodoro, that is in fact so good that I always lick my plate clean. I am in love with this recipe and I am so excited to now be sharing it with you guys!




  • 1 big carrot
  • 1 stem of celery
  • 1 medium white onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil
  • 250 grams sweet cherry tomatoes
  • 160 grams of dried wholewheat mafaldine pasta (or spaghetti)




  1. Finely slice the carrot, celery, onion and garlic into small even cubes.
  2. Heat up a saucepan on a medium heat and add the olive oil.
  3. Add your carrot, celery, onion and garlic into the saucepan and bake until everything is soft and lightly golden. Season lightly with some salt and pepper.
  4. Then add a spoonful of tomato paste and stir.
  5. Add the fresh tomatoes and season again with some salt and pepper. Continue cooking this for about 15 min and make sure to stir occasionally.
  6. Pick and chop the basil leaves julienne style (long thin lines).
  7. Add the basil to your sauce and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer.
  8. While you wait for your sauce to thicken up boil some water in a separate pan and add a pinch of salt.
  9. Add your mafaldine pasta (or spaghetti) and cook according to the package. It’s best to cook the pasta al dente.
  10. Once your pasta is done and drained add it to your sauce and stir until all the pasta is covered in sauce.
  11. When serving the pasta sprinkle some more chopped basil on top as a finishing touch!
  12. Then the most exciting part, get ready to get stuck in! Buon appetito!





Summery Lunch at La Vita è Bella, Como


La Vita è Bella is a restaurant where you can enjoy a real Italian atmosphere. You can find it in the middle of Como’s city centre next to the lake. It’s a great spot to have a delicious and healthy meal but still enjoy a true Italy. 

What to have


The menu here is amazing. Not only do they make some delicious traditional Italian food – the type of food you can only eat in Italy, its an experience in itself. But they also have the biggest selection of salads, which for a vegan lover is a dream!

One of my favourite salads is the ‘Insalata di Arance‘ (€8.50/£7.50), which consists of fennel, orange, rucola and toasted almonds finished off with a vinaigrette. This salad is crunchy, fruity and extremely refreshing. Perfect on a warm summer day!

Another one of my favourite salads is called ‘L’orientale‘ (€9/£7.90). This plate consists of a green salad mix with couscous, green beans, peppers, onion and mango croutons finished off with an amazing vinaigrette on top! The amazing thing is that they might have over 50 different salads on the menu, but you can still tweak your own. I am personally in love with avocado so I love to add it to my salads. Maybe you have a passion for fruit or fresh tomatoes, just ask and they will prepare it for you!

After lunch or dinner you of course have to finish your meal Italian style, it’s espresso time! If you aren’t a coffee lover it’s in Italy where you will learn to drink it! An espresso is almost like a digestive and I think it’s the perfect end to a dinner.

The taste of home – Vegan pizza and spaghetti at La Baracca



When I was living in Bali of course I loved living in a tropical paradise with my feet in the sand. However, I did have a few moments where I missed home as well as those moments of cuddling up on the couch with a comforting plate of pasta and a movie. It was on those moments where I decided to go to La Baracca and treat myself with some delicious comfort food and a glass of wine! And I immediately felt at home again.

When walking into La Baracca you see a sign hanging above the door saying ‘Home away from home’. And that is exactly what this is – a homely restaurant with delicious comfort food with an amazing atmosphere and warming people.




At La Baracca they serve the most amazing home-made classic Italian meals like pasta Pomodoro and home-made ravioli. However, other than classics they also serve Italian meals with a twist. Not all Italians might be impressed with classics being twisted with, however, even a classic Italian is guaranteed to clean their plate! Also, a special message to all fellow vegans because this menu is extremely vegan friendly! There is a large selection of meals that already are or can be made vegan. Just like one of my favourites, vegan pizza! Yep, excitement is an understatement!





What I love

I am in love with everything on the menu. Every single meal is vibrant and a combination of delicious flavours. Two of my absolute favourite pasta’s are the home-made ‘Pasta Pomodoro’ and ‘Pasta all olio e gingero‘. You can taste that the ‘Pasta Pomodoro’ is made fresh as the pasta sticks together and has an amazing flavour of itself. The tomato sauce is a bomb of flavour as its a thick, chunky and raw. Fresh basil is sprinkled on top and you’ve got yourself a plate made in heaven.

‘Pasta all olio e gingero’ might sound a bit strange at first as ginger in pasta seems a bit unusual. But actually its a recipe that has been cooked in Italy for quite some time. It’s just that not all of us have tasted this amazing pasta yet! It’s so simple but yet so delicious. I find that lots of simple Italian recipes are often the best. When cooking a classic simple Italian pasta such as pasta Pomodoro which includes just a few ingredients (tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, carrot, celery and basil) you will have to use the best quality ingredients to make the pasta good, and oh my if the ingredients are fresh then you are in for a treat!





Fancy more of a pizza? Then try the vegan pizza with home-made vegan cheese, tomatoes and fresh basil. Its definitely the best vegan pizza I tried in Canggu. The base is crunchy and thin, the tomatoes fresh and flavoursome and even the vegan cheese surprised me! It really does replicate dairy cheese and has a really tasty flavour to it. When drizzled with some olive oil and sprinkled with fresh basil it doesn’t only look pretty it also tasted amazing.





When you finish your dinner and you think that you can’t get any more satisfied  – then its time for their complimentary home-made limoncello to help you digest all the delicious food you just ate. It might burn a little but oh my does it taste amazing!

La Baracca is one of my favourite restaurants in Canggu and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with its atmosphere, delicious food and the loving people, just like I did!

An authentic Italian meal in Canggu, Bali


Its only been a few months since I moved to Bali but in-between the amazing fruit, fresh vegetables and delicious Indonesian food it sometimes feels great to have some comforting home food. Having a boyfriend thats Italian gave me the opportunity to spend a lot of time in Italy. Where we would have fresh home-made gnocchi waiting for us at home as soon as we got of the plane. For me Italian food is a sense of home, comfort, happiness, passion and loving.

So when I found out about Bottega Italiana Bali in Canggu I was over the moon! A place where I can find a little piece of home and enjoy a traditional Italian meal.


Bottega Italiana Bali is a small Italian restaurant in the middle of Canggu which only opened their doors in spring 2016. They serve high quality food of which some they import all the way from Italy. Other ingredients are locally farmed or even home-made! They even smoke and cure their own meat and salmon.

When looking at the menu you notice many delicious and traditional meals. But some dishes stand out and tend to have a little twist! I for example ordered the ‘Semi e legumi salad’ (70k Idr) which was recommended by the owner – who is by the way the most passionate man. He is very charming and originally from Umbria. He decided to move to Bali 10 years ago and is now bringing his Italian food passion to the streets of Bali together with his beautiful partner.

And I have to admit, the salad that he recommended really was something special. Due to the amount of different seeds mixed with the other ingredients every spoonful was extremely crunchy! It also had a slight smokey flavour. It was raw and every spoon full was full of energy, vibrant flavours and vegan goodness. Through the crunchiness you could taste the juiciness of the tomato. The roasted sesame seeds gave it a sophisticated oriental accent, but not taking it too far of the Italian heritage.

But if you want to really get teleported back to Italy then the selection of cheese is perfect. All cheeses served were young and extremely tasty. The selection of different breads complimented the cheese perfectly – especially the foccacia! Personally I am a big fan of focaccia and I loved every bite of the one they serve here! With every bite you had a hint of roasted tomato and olives, which managed to keep the focaccia moist and soft. Wash it down with a sip of the delicious wine and you got yourself a trip back to Italy!

Isola Rose – Bottega Italiana Bali, Canggu Bali

When I think of my time in Italy I cant miss out thinking about a delicious glass of wine with my pasta. I mean isn’t that combination just pure happiness?

Being in Canggu I really struggled finding a good glass of wine. But now I am glad to inform you that I finally found the spot! Bottega Italiana Bali serves wine that is locally made! The owner told me that he has a very special producer who makes wine for him! He is originally from Italy but now lives in the isolated mountains of Bali – producing the most delicious, organic and honest wines. The moment the waiter filled my glass I could already smell the strong fruity flavours.

Pomodorino e stracciatella pasta – Bottega Italiana Bali, Canggu Bali

The menu is full of vegetarian dishes and they also have some amazing vegan options. However, for the vegetarian there is a must try. The ‘Pomodorino e stracciatella pasta’ (85 Idr) is absolutely delicious – a real plate of art. The texture of the pasta really gives away the fact that its freshly made. The home-made stracciatella melts over the warm pasta and left the perfect creamy texture when mixing it all together. The plate was beautiful, simple and old school – exactly what I think a real homely Italian plate should look like! Every bite I took was different, the texture, the softness, its irregular. Which means, freshly made pasta!

Fresh gluten free pasta- Bottega Italiana Bali, Canggu Bali

However, for the meat lovers there is a very special pasta! The ‘Ragu di anatra’ (85k Idr) is slowly cooked and made with minced duck, tomato sauce and parmesan. The meat is almost melted inside as you don’t really taste the texture but the rich flavours immediately stand out. Parmesan is sprinkled on top giving that extra flavour creating a beautiful plate of delicious pasta. This dish is absolutely perfect with a glass of red wine!

Ragu di anatra pasta – Bottega Italiana Bali, Canggu Bali

As you know I am a big coffee lover! So when I think of my days in Italy I think of my early morning cappuccino’s and espresso’s on the go. In Italy I always finish of with an espresso after dinner. And in fact, the coffee that they serve here is slightly less sour than you typically find in Italy. The owner especially wanted the perfect balance between flavours and found that the best combination of coffee beans was 20% Robusta and 80% Arabica. Which is indeed, perfection!

To finish off my cosy and perfect night I tried the home-made tiramisu – a real Italian delicacy. Which if done right, is my absolute favourite! And this tiramisu really topped everything. It was very light and perfect of flavour and texture.

The restaurant is extremely cosy and I love the fact that its not too big, making it very homely. Its warm atmosphere is comforting and the candle light at night creates a romantic atmosphere. I cant wait to go back for another evening and teleport myself back again to Italy where I feel at home.

Bottega Italiana Bali is currently located in Canggu and Seminyak but will soon open their third restaurant in Petitenget.

The restaurant I visited was located in Canggu, of which the address is: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.77, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

They are open every day from 8am to 10pm. So you can also enjoy a traditional Italian breakfast! And what’s a better way to start the day with a freshly baked brioche while dipping it in a delicious cappuccino! They also offer very healthy options such as their home-made granola, so this is a place for everyone! Im sure you will fall in love with it just as much as I did.

La bella vita, life is beautiful. A few words you should be telling yourself repeatedly every day! While I sit down with my face in the sun, my puppy rests his head on my foot, the waiter places the most amazingly smelling fresh coffee on the table, and he smiles, “Bonjour, this one is on me” he says. Well that is a moment where I thought to myself, la bella vita!


There are many amazing restaurants in this beautiful town in France called Deauville. But on a day like this, whats a better place to go and enjoy some delicious food than in La Bella Vita! You walk in and immediately feel the relaxing atmosphere. Both the sofas and the chairs are extremely comfortable which places your body in a relaxed position. The waiters are extremely friendly and the menu is always changing, but ALWAYS delicious! (Which is perfect so you can drop by as many times as you want and never get bored of the menu!) Every bite of every single dish is so flavoursome, so surprising. I usually am able to taste the ingredients used in a dish, however, here they always seem to surprise me and leave me questioning as to what the secret ingredient is that makes the taste so unique and amazing. As you From started to desert, you leave happy and satisfied. Not many people know about this amazing place, which is why I am telling you to go and visit! Do both your body and your mind a favour, and spoil yourself with these amazing flavours. While you enjoy every single bite, you can hear the combination of the relaxing music and the kitchen singing loudly to queen in core. The restaurant has a happy atmosphere, you can feel the energy, you can feel it in the air, you can hear it in the kitchen, you can taste it in the food. Go on, book your table! Do it soon, you will regret that you haven’t been here sooner!!
