My favourite beach spot – Barstarzz Bali

Canggu is full of cute beach spots and beach clubs but I recently discovered this small beach bar that I absolutely fell in love with named Barstarzz.

This spot is everything I imagined what Bali would be like! You can feel the warm sand underneath your feet as you walk towards the bar. Quickly jump on the bamboo and get welcomed by the dogs that love to hang out in the shadow underneath the trees. As you make your way to one of the beanbags you put your beach bag down and release yourself into a bag that in 1 second forms itself into the perfect bed. Put your feet up and enjoy the view.

A fresh coconut is being cut just behind you and served straight to you with just a straw stuck in it. I mean, whats more refreshing on a hot day?! However, my favourite part is when I finish the coconut, yep you read that right, when I finish it! Because the best part is yet to come! The owner of the bar will get your coconut, split it in half, and give it back to you with a spoon. Trust me, the fresh coconut meat is the most delicious thing in the world!

As you sit and enjoy the view you set your eyes on the menu which gives you a great selection of sandwiches, fruit bowls, juices, smoothies, cocktails and more. I absolute love the vegan sandwich which is made with crunchy bread, roasted vegetables and a coconut dressing. Its so simple but perfect! An amazing snack is the fresh fruit bowl which I order very often as its just a delicious selection of tropical fruit cut freshly for you at the bar. I appreciate the food so much at this place as its so honest, simple, fresh and delicious. Nothing is added, nothing is overly baked, fried or seasoned with things you can’t pronounce the name of. Its honest food made simple with love.

Barstarzz also has an open air gym which makes it perfect to have some fun but also to get a real workout done! After having done some sweating you just set a few steps towards the bar and order yourself a fresh coconut to stay hydrated!

Imagine laying underneath the tropical trees, a slight breeze blows through the leaves letting the sun sneak through. With a fresh watermelon juice in one hand and your feet in the sand. Isn’t that just a Bali dream?

I am in love with this spot and I’m sure you will fall in love with it too! You can find Barstarzz close to Finns Club on Berawa beach in Canggu and its open from 6am until 8pm. So you can stay to witness that magical Bali sunset!

The most delicious & traditional cooking class at The Amala, Bali

Some days sunny Bali turns into a rainy paradise and leaves you being washed away from the beach. However, on days like that I know just the activity that will give you a chance to get to know a little piece of Bali’s culture!

At The Amala Hotel in Seminyak they offer private cooking lessons, teaching you how to cook an authentic Balinese meal!

As a surprise for my boyfriends birthday I decided to take him on this cooking adventure. We got got picked up, escorted through the rain and lead into a little piece of paradise.

In the middle of the busy streets of Seminyak you will find a tiny road that will lead you to a whole different world. As soon as you arrive you notice the tropical green colours, palms, water clattering down the stones, it truly is a beautiful place.

The Amala Hotel

The cooking lesson is held next to the swimming pool and everything has been taken care of. The ingredients are ready for you to taste, the menu you will be preparing is there for you to inspect and your apron is ready to be put on!

Ingredients for our dishes – The Amala Hotel

The chef teaches you what kind of ingredients the Balinese kitchen uses and how to use it. Next to preparing some of the most delicious Balinese food I have ever tasted, I also learned a lot about the Balinese culture. Its amazing to get to talk about the overall culture and the importance of its food.

Cooking all these amazing recipes and preparing delicious dishes is an amazing experience. But it does get you hungry! The great thing is, after cooking all the meals you will be seated on a beautiful table with a view over the swimming pool and your very own prepared meals will be served to you! While raindrops were falling around us we sat down, enjoyed the view and had a feast!

From delicious Gado-gado and tofu in banana leaf to Pisang goreng (fried banana, my favourite!). Every single dish was as delicious as the other. The whole experience was amazing and I highly recommend you to join a class! Its perfect for a special occasion as you can join a class with a large group, or go for a romantic private lesson with your lover!

When we finished our dinner we even got an official certificate, our apron, the recipes and a little box of ingredients that we can use to recreate this delicious meal! We loved it!

The Amala Hotel  is located on Jl. Kunti I, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

A class is 725.000 Idr (around 40 pounds) per person and you can book your very own lesson by clicking here! I’m sure you will love it just as much as we did!

Enjoy! X

Perfect place for a romantic get away in the middle of Seminyak, Bali

I recently woke up in a little jungle in the middle of Seminyak, Bali! This town is known for its buzzing atmosphere but in-between all the busy roads I found a little peaceful spot!

As soon as I walked through the heavy wooden gates I felt as if I was in a secret garden. Follow the path through the green trees and beautiful flowers and you will find a little piece of paradise. Its almost like its own little bubble as you are completely isolated from everything around you.

Citrus Tree Villas-Layla – Seminyak, Bali

Its very quiet and all you hear are the birds singing and water flowing. As you walk around you feel lost in a tropical garden. Hop from stone to stone and follow the little river flowing from side to side.

Citrus Tree Villas-Layla – Seminyak, Bali

There is a big pool beautifully placed in-between the garden and the villas. The pool is filled with pretty colourful flowers that drop from the trees that surround it. You will find a relaxing jacuzzi in the stone ground, with its water running to the main pool. It almost feels like its very own little river, where the water just keeps on running in circles. Together with the sound of water clattering it creates a very peaceful image.

The villas have beautifully designed interiors. Everything looks fresh and is looked after up to the small details.

A spot that I absolutely loved is the outdoor bathroom. It has a beautiful bath in which you can stretch out and fully relax. Enjoy your evening bath while geckos keep you company. They will sing you a little song in harmony.

The room I slept in was very comfortable and spacious. When laying in my bed I could look outside my windows, which were the size of the wall. You know when you go to the zoo and you knock on the window and a sneak may come and say hello. Thats exactly what it felt like, I was sleeping in a zoo and a snake may knock on my window instead.

The staff that was present were extremely helpful and sweet, but after spending a relaxing day in this beautiful place we were left alone and had the place by ourselves. I think that this is amazing as you have all the services that you need, but you also have a lot of privacy. Which I think would be perfect if you are here for a celebration such as your honeymoon!

I woke up from the raindrops ticking on my window. A tropical rain had hit our little jungle and it didn’t sound like it was going to stop anytime soon. There is something magical about the laying in your cosy bed while its pouring down with rain just outside your window. I could hear the drops landing on the big palms and ticking on the bamboo roof, which then made its way down and created a little river down the path outside.

After waking up from the most relaxing sleep I had a stretch and made my way to the pool for a morning swim. Not long after we were told that our breakfast was ready! As you know I am a big breakfast lover and so I got excited the moment I saw the table beautifully laid out! And whats a better way to start your morning with fresh local Balinese coffee! This is something I definitely learned to drink while being in Bali, and its starting to grow on me! Its strong but its flavour is delicious!

For the ultimate relaxation get a massage in a little tent thats placed in-between the jungle leaves. You will have the sound of water running down the river in the background, no need for relaxing music – the sound of nature creates the most beautiful music.

While walking around the garden I noticed butterflies everywhere, leading me the way through the palms. Hidden in-between the flowers you would find buddhas that automatically gives you a peaceful image. This place really calms you down, getting your mind back to earth and appreciating the little things that are given to you by nature.

If you want to stay in this little jungle paradise hidden in-between the buzzing roads of Seminyak then go to I absolutely loved it and highly recommend anyone to stay if you are looking for a relaxing get away or if you have a special celebration. As it has many rooms its perfect for a big family or to stay with a group of friends!

Waking up in the Jungle in Ubud, Bali

Ubud is known to be a yogi paradise. There is nature everywhere and in some places you will have the most amazing view over the jungle and the palm trees. Practise yoga in-between the monkeys or wake up looking into the jungle. I woke up doing exactly that, I had my morning swim looking into a jungle abyss!

The day before I had arrived at Pandawas Villas. As soon as I found it hiding in-between the jungle it stunned me. Beautiful architecture is surrounded by a tropical garden. I immediately noticed the details of the building. Beautiful colours, traditional drawings and buddhas are hidden in-between the green garden giving you a sense of natural beauty and calmness.

The extremely kind staff welcomed me which left me feeling comfortable straight away. I got offered a delicious fresh made fruit juice, which was extremely refreshing especially after a long drive in the Bali heat!

As soon as you walk in you can feel the relaxing atmosphere. You are surrounded by jungle and there is peace and quiet. You almost feel more part of nature.

It is the perfect spot for romantic couples and for honey moons. There is a little tent next to the swimming pool in which you can have a romantic couples massage. This is definitely a place where you can get spoiled from heat to toe, but still have your privacy.

When swimming in the pool you look into the beautiful and endless jungle. You can hear the animal sounds echo between the trees. Palms are rustling in the wind. A Gekko crawls out of the tree in front of you. You truly are part of nature.

Personally I have turned into a real morning person since I moved to Bali. And so I love waking up by giving my body a good wake up call! A jump in the pool or just a cold shower is the perfect way to start the day for me! Plus there are a bunch of health benefits that come along with a boost of energy! It refines your skin and hair, improves immunity, improves circulation, stimulates weightless, recovers muscle soreness and relieves depression! I think this sounds like the perfect way to start the day!

However, this morning shower was even more special and it definitely made me feel AMAZING. I took my shower in the open air surrounded by beautiful green trees and birds under the blue sky – this time it wasn’t only me singing in the shower!

I immediately fell in love with this bathroom. It has incredible detail. You are surrounded by green and everything is in the open air. Even at night it looks magical. Lights light up underneath the palms and highlight the details of the designs drawn on the wall. You can enjoy a bath while geckos keep you company. Don’t worry they won’t join you inside the bath, but they will sing you a little background song.

After an amazing night sleep I opened the curtains and a beautiful breakfast was already set out! And what is a morning without a good cup of coffee! I enjoyed a delicious local Balinese coffee while I dipped in a freshly baked crunchy croissant. This is the kind of place where you find yourself in the pool looking over the side into the jungle abyss thinking ” I am never going home”.

If you ever want to wake up in the Jungle, or if you are looking for the perfect place for a honey moon or a celebration then I highly recommend you to go here. Its location is perfect, you are in the middle of the jungle and all you hear are geckos, birds, frogs and crickets singing in the wind. But you are still extremely close to the busy and trendy roads of Ubud – only about a 10 min drive down the hill!

Its beautiful, peaceful and get ready to be mentally and physically detoxed. Become part of nature again and leave your busy lives behind just for a moment.

What to know before visiting Tegenungan Waterfall in Ubud, Bali

Tegenungan Waterfall is a beautiful place hidden in-between the palm trees in Bali. It has a magical vibe and a peaceful atmosphere. At least, this is the truth when you visit early in the morning. This the kind of place where you definitely want to beat the crowd in order to experience it to the fullest!

Its a lovely spot to go for a swim on a warm day. But during rain season the water will turn more brown and dirty, a little less nice to dive in!

The waterfall lays 10 km from Ubud and is currently a very popular tourist attraction. When visiting you will need to pay an entrance fee, which is currently at 15k Idr (0.85 Gbp). Once you walk down towards the waterfall you will find a beautiful scene. I absolutely loved it and it really is an amazing spot. However, personally I felt that it was slightly overcrowded.

If you do want to take the perfect picture without any tourists jumping in the background, then you will have to walk up next to the waterfall and pay an additional fee (10k Idr/0.56 Gbp) in order to enter a spot where you will find yourself standing alone. Here you can take your picture with the waterfall perfectly flowing in the background!

However, if you dont want to pay another fee just to get onto another spot or if you dont like popular tourist attractions then you will need to get there as early as possible! The waterfall officially opens at 7am until 6pm. But I recommend you to be there between 6 and 8am. This way there won’t be a crowd and you can truly experience its beauty all by yourself! Enjoy! X

Desa Seni – A Bali dream

Sometimes we just all need to have a day of zen. Back to basics, no rushing, no phone calls, no work, just you, yourself and a yoga mat. The perfect place to enjoy a perfect day like this is at the yoga resort in Bali named Desa Seni.

Desa Seni Canggu, Bali

Desa Seni is an art village that offers daily yoga classes, personal yoga retreats and wellness packages filled with amazing treatments. They also offer a holistic spa and an organic restaurant in which they serve all kind of green goodness. In their artistic shop you can buy clothing, jewellery, yoga matts and many more things such as their own branded beauty products and oils. You could easily spend  your whole day here if you feel like you need to detoxify your mind and body.

The moment you walk into the resort you get overwhelmed by the calmness. The environment and the greenness that surrounds you creates a peaceful effect.

The extremely friendly staff escort you inside but then stop to strike the gong creating a healing sound to welcome you into the resort. This already makes you feel welcome and the sound of the gong creates subtle vibrations, which have a magical effect.

In a garden full of tropical flowers and palm trees you follow the path of the oddly satisfying circled rocks and skip from one rock to the other. You just end up following the path which tends to lead you, instead of you having to decide which way to go. It feels like everything in this resort has been carefully thought of. From evenly set out stones (which unknowingly satisfies and calms any person) to buddhas and namaste signs and symbols that are hidden everywhere. They tend to remind you to feel zen.

All you hear are birds singing and palms rustling. You can really feel that everyone that walks around really is there to enjoy nature and peace and quiet. Its almost as if everyone has just finished an amazing yoga lesson and still have their head in the clouds. Its creates an amazing vibe making you want to take a big breath and let all your stress fall of your shoulders.

Yoga Lesson – Desa Seni Canggu, Bali

When spending an amazing day at this dreamy place I joined a yoga class first thing in the morning – the perfect way to start your day!

The yoga lesson was held in a beautiful open space in the middle of green nature. Due to it being in the shadow there is a slight breeze creating a cooling effect – which is very pleasant during practise. They also offer Fly High Yoga which is definitely a must try! My yoga teacher was named Bernd and he had a very soothing voice creating a calming effect. He helped when was needed but was not at all pushy. Perfect for beginners but also for experienced yogis.

Also, all the yoga equipment is taken care of so no need to bring your own yoga mat if you don’t own one!

Healthy snacks after yoga- Desa Seni Canggu, Bali

After yoga you are offered fresh ginger tea. Its deliciously fresh, giving you a little kick to wake up your body! You can enjoy this tea in the ‘tea area’, which is a beautiful space accompanied by artistic pieces and has a lovely view over the green garden.

After an amazing yoga lesson you might get hungry, luckily they offer the most delicious organic food in their beautiful restaurant. If you follow the path through the green grass you will find a cute restaurant hidden within the palm trees. On your way there you walk past a little garden in which they grow fresh crops and vegetables. This just adds to the amazing experience creating an organic and natural atmosphere. Who knows that that crop of salad might be laying on your plate 10 minutes later.

When you arrive at the entrance of the restaurant you will find several shoes that have been taken off before entering alongside a basket filled with coconuts and another filled with gorgeous avocados.

When sitting down you notice a fresh breeze flowing through the restaurant, which help create the calming sounds made by the colourful wind chime. It all creates an amazing and relaxing scene.

As soon as you open the menu you get overwhelmed by the delicious options. It consists of vibrant flavours and surprising combinations, all made with organic products.

As I was feeling amazing from the yoga session I attended I decided to order a fresh ‘green juice’. This freshly made juice tasted very green but it still had a sweet aftertaste. Great for after yoga to feel clean and energised!

Desa Seni Salad – Desa Seni Canggu, Bali

I then ordered the ‘Sawi Spring Roll’ (85k Idr/ 4.80Gbp) which is definitely the perfect snack or appetiser. These vegan rolls consist of garden vegetables with a tofu and almond spread to then be perfectly rolled in sawi leaves. They were deliciously light and crispy and tasted raw and full of green goodness!

Another delicious meal I highly recommend is the ‘Desa Seni Salad’ (75k Idr/ 4.20Gbp). This salad consists of fresh greens with tempe manis, corn, tomatoes, sunflower seeds and drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette – all in all a delicious bowl of green goodness! The crunchy tempe adds texture and the fresh dressing is an amazing touch!

You will find that this menu is full of delicious and healthy options sourced organically. And for the sweet lovers, they also offer healthy, vegan and raw desserts! You will leave the restaurant satisfied and feeling amazing!

A spa treatment is of course a must when staying in this beautiful resort. They offer all kind of treatments such as Hot Stone Therapy (90 min – 600k Idr/34 Gbp) or a Aromatherapy Massage (75 min – 500k Idr/28 Gbp). The massages are almost a ritual in itself and you leave the room even more relaxed then before. To enjoy the calmness and amazing feeling after your massage you sink into a comfortable chair and enjoy the view over the garden while sipping on your hot tea.

I honestly believe that this is one of the most amazing and beautiful places I have ever stayed at. If you decide that you need to spend more then just one day in this paradise then spend the night (or week) in one of their gorgeous rooms or houses!
