Some days sunny Bali turns into a rainy paradise and leaves you being washed away from the beach. However, on days like that I know just the activity that will give you a chance to get to know a little piece of Bali’s culture!
At The Amala Hotel in Seminyak they offer private cooking lessons, teaching you how to cook an authentic Balinese meal!
As a surprise for my boyfriends birthday I decided to take him on this cooking adventure. We got got picked up, escorted through the rain and lead into a little piece of paradise.
In the middle of the busy streets of Seminyak you will find a tiny road that will lead you to a whole different world. As soon as you arrive you notice the tropical green colours, palms, water clattering down the stones, it truly is a beautiful place.
The cooking lesson is held next to the swimming pool and everything has been taken care of. The ingredients are ready for you to taste, the menu you will be preparing is there for you to inspect and your apron is ready to be put on!
The chef teaches you what kind of ingredients the Balinese kitchen uses and how to use it. Next to preparing some of the most delicious Balinese food I have ever tasted, I also learned a lot about the Balinese culture. Its amazing to get to talk about the overall culture and the importance of its food.
Cooking all these amazing recipes and preparing delicious dishes is an amazing experience. But it does get you hungry! The great thing is, after cooking all the meals you will be seated on a beautiful table with a view over the swimming pool and your very own prepared meals will be served to you! While raindrops were falling around us we sat down, enjoyed the view and had a feast!
From delicious Gado-gado and tofu in banana leaf to Pisang goreng (fried banana, my favourite!). Every single dish was as delicious as the other. The whole experience was amazing and I highly recommend you to join a class! Its perfect for a special occasion as you can join a class with a large group, or go for a romantic private lesson with your lover!
When we finished our dinner we even got an official certificate, our apron, the recipes and a little box of ingredients that we can use to recreate this delicious meal! We loved it!
The Amala Hotel is located on Jl. Kunti I, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
A class is 725.000 Idr (around 40 pounds) per person and you can book your very own lesson by clicking here! I’m sure you will love it just as much as we did!
